Counselling uses very human skills - like knowing how and when to ask the right questions - which the counsellor has developed through training and experience. Counselling involves the helping skills of caring, listening and prompting. It is based on talking and the respectful, trusting relationship that builds up between the client and the counsellor.
As your counsellor I will be supportive but give little or no direct advice, since the aim is to help develop your insight into your own issues. A counsellor does this by helping a client draw on their own resources to enable them to approach their life in a fresh way.
During the course of the counselling sessions you will be able to reassess your own 'coping skills' and learn more effective ways to deal with issues. So, go ahead, tip the pieces of your jigsaw onto the floor and let us find out where to start together.
